  • Epic views in <30 mins
  • Manageable level of ascent
  • Diverse: Forest & hillside

What is is not

  • Empty of other people
  • A full day out (hiking)

Walk Description

From the car park, follow a well marked trail into the trees. After a small climb you will find a path branching off to your left. Take this path and it soon heads uphill through the trees. There has been work done on this path (2024, 2025) and there are stairs most of the way up. At the edge of the trees, you find a gate out onto a stone path. This curves around to the left uphill, rising quite steeply. It is easy to get a bit puffed out but the first excellent view point is close by!

Pass a small resting spot to the right, continuing on up to where you could leave the path and sit on the grass to your left, overlooking Loch Lomond. (The image at the start of this article).

At this point decide if you want to go up to the very top, or turn back. Alternatively, there is a way to go down the ‘front’ (facing towards the Loch) on a much less well defined path which will turn the walk into a loop. I prefer to do it this way. It feels more adventurous, there are fewer people and you often see some Highland Cows

If you choose to go up to the top, it is another quite steep ascent, but clearly marked and paved all the way. Last time I was there it was ‘shut’ as they were still building the final path at the top. You do not need to go to the very top to enjoy wonderful views over the loch, have a picnic, get fresh air. It is worth it though, if you can. You get much more of a 360 view, can see to mountains in the distance and look back over much more of the countryside.

Excellent mist and cloud watching spot if you are into that. I like to come in the morning to watch the frosty sunrise and the mist laying low over the countryside but that’s just me!
